GERBER'S A-TEAM IS ABOUT TO LIGHT UP THE NIGHT- AND CHARLIE'S GOING TO FEEL THE HEAT! Base A-555 was carved out of Charlie's playground with blood, sweat, and firepower. Now the A-team is going to use it to shut down the well-armed V.C. torture squad that's terrorizing the local populace. It's a high-risk venture deep into V.C territory, but the A-team's got six helicopters and the best pilots in Nam. It's going to take accurate intelligence, perfect timing, and sheer guts to stage the most daring land-air assault of the war - and touch off a little piece of hell - right under Charlie's nose!

A brutal opening to this book reveals a terror squad roving around the villages nearby Gerber's camp a-555. Helicopters are added the the arsenal to retaliate against mortar attacks on the camp and then to hunt down the communist terrorists. Lots of tactical discussion between missions and some action filled battles throughout this story. One of Gerber's team doesn't make it, and some of the pilots get killed, it is a bloodier and more intense book than the last one. The Chinese leader behind the terrorists seems to be a character that might return in future books, Fetterman seems determined to go after him, the villain having escaped from Gerber's team a few times by now.

Another solid entry. This series keeps getting better. The action in Chopper Command is more realistic than in either of the two previous novels. Also, more attention is paid to the political situation on the ground, as opposed to the first two Scorpion Squad novels, which inserted action at every possible occasion, sometimes to the detriment of the overall story.
