The Americans believe that the North Vietnamese are using a new kind of guidance system for their SA-2 missiles. U.S. fighter aircraft are unable to detect surface-to-air launches on their radar equipment. If this discovery is true, then the air war over Vietnam would be radically changed- to the detriment of U.S. troops in Vietnam. Special Forces Captain Mack Gerber and a team of soldiers are called upon to make a nighttime HALO jump into the North- at 33,000 feet from a B-52. The mission to investigate the superior Soviet guidance system becomes secondary in the face of subzero temperatures and lack of oxygen at that altitude. And Gerber knows that if they survive the dive, but are caught by the enemy, their stay in the infamous prison complex called the Hanoi Hilton won't be a vacation!

The Phantom 8/10 November 3, 2021
It appears that the NVA has a new technology with their SAM missiles, and Gerber is tasked to form a squad to infiltrate North Vietnam to investigate. A good entry in the series, a little more action than the previous book and some old allies are brought back for this adventure. As usual there is much danger in the jungle, adding a suspense to the mission, and Fetterman is once again Gerber's right hand man for the book. The reporter side of the story made for a more well rounded plot, and everything was wrapped up nicely in the last few pages. As in the last book, I thought the Kit character was not necessary, I never thought she was really utilized well in this series, and just seems to be filler so far.
