An international crime cartel is flexing its muscles. The Russian-backed Israeli mob known as the Malina kidnaps the daughter of one of the most powerful Mafia dons in the United States and proceeds to turn the last hours of the young Angelina Capezi's life into a living hell. In an explosive second round, the Malina seize a Las Vegas hotel owned by the dead girl's father, "Crazy" Carlo Capezi. The ransom: three million dollars. The ultimatum: pay up, or watch the bomb-rigged hotel turn into a twisted concrete-and-glass gravestone for a thousand bodies. In the steamy neon jungle of Las Vegas, Dan Track plays a high-stakes game with a deadly new force of evil. He's betting the limit and knows there's only one way to win- The Hard Way.

The Phantom 9/10 February 3, 2019
This is more of a crossover story than a pure Track adventure, featuring Ahern's other GE books at the time called The Takers. Here we have two separate story-lines tied together with Track and his nephew George on one end, and Josh Culhane on the other.  Much of the early action takes place in Florida, but the major scene involves a hotel in Las Vegas. I enjoyed all the action here, with the unlikely heroes being writers of action adventure books taking on terrorists there, with Culhane being one of them. The eventual meet-up with Track appeared rather late in the story, but lots of stuff going on to keep the reader entertained. You might want to keep a scorecard of all the characters in this novel, Ahern crams everything and everybody and the kitchen sink into this 220 page format, but somehow makes it all work out. The plot itself was not complex, characters are what drives this story, along with the much gun fondling as expected. Several good scenes sprinkled into this book, I liked the side adventure Mulroony had in the desert among the best, and as usual there is the constant watch checking down to the wire defuse the bomb threat thing going on, which seems to be the theme so far in the series. I would say this is the best book so far, even though the main villains were nothing special compared to Krieger in the first three.
