What began as a personal odyssey has turned into a struggle for survival. Dan Track crosses the Hindu Kush and infiltrates a top-secret science complex in the Russian city of Alma Ata, where the Soviets are conducting experiments in mind control on human guinea pigs. In an eleventh-hour showdown, Track finds himself backed against the wall when his closest ally turns out to be a programmed killer with one thing on his mind- Track's death.

The story beginning in book 5 comes to a conclusion at the soviet facility in Certain Blood. Before this, there is much that Track and and his allies must travel through and contend with, which makes up most of this adventure. The harsh elements and Russian soldiers dog their trail, providing a never ending danger for the journey, and as predicted, all the various groups meet up at the final compound. Lots of good action, and the side story of Baslovich's escape from his KGB life was really my favorite part of the book. The ending had some weird mind control stuff going on, which was kind of an interesting plot element, although there is a lot of stretching of believability regarding this, but then again there isn't much in the way of taking this series too seriously to begin with. Overall a very entertaining duology here, I had a lot of fun reading these.
