Point of vulnerability. The mission seemed simple- find out who shot and killed an FBI nano-scientist, then locate his missing partner. But Mack Bolan discovers the deadly truth about the U.S. government's top-secret defense technology. It's been breached by terrorists, who are about to manipulate the country's most classified data- from satellites to troop movements, as well as the nation's last firewall: Stony Man. With the local mafia already scavenging for the remains of a crumbling technology, America is facing a crisis of unimaginable proportions. Seconds count as Bolan follows a bloodbath to the mountains of Afghanistan for a final confrontation with the masterminds of what could be the most savage terrorist attack in history. The Executioner is willing to die trying to make sure it's not successful- not by a long shot.

Bolan is trying to discover who is sabotaging a government computer system. The action is non-stop as he also tries to find a computer expert who can stop the hacking. Add the mafia to the mix and Bolan taking out hitters left and right...he finally discovers the culprit and heads to Afghanistan to crush the terrorists. Grimaldi had some action also alongside the big man, and even the epilogue was tense. It all leads to the second part where I assume Bolan will contend with the leader of the terrorists and the mob.

The first title of the Carnivore Project duology and just a fair entry to start off. Terrorists with the aid of a computer genius have managed to gain entry to the nations most secure computer network and are getting close to being able to take over the defence and data storage systems of the country controlling what they like. The Big Guy with the assistance of a beautiful computer programmer of the system are assigned to stop the intrusions and take out the Terrorists involved. There is also the involvement of the local Mafia to be taken into account but buggered if I know why as they have featured very little in this the first title. Action scenes are okay if not standard in these titles and the introduced characters are all again okay with no standouts. So all in all an okay read setting up the second title of the duology which I am hoping is better.

A genius, computer whiz-kid not sympathetic to U.S. involvement in the Afghanistan has hijacked a powerful FBI computer program, code-named Carnivore. The plot has problems and starts weakly. In the beginning, two random, flat, enemy actions that raises more “yeah, right” than questions. Only when Bolan arrives at the Garden of Allah, the book begins in earnest. There are a number of issues. The secluded cabin had no telephone, emphasized through dialogue, now how was she getting internet access again? Shouldn’t they’ve asked the President to temporarily shut down Carnivore? And there was a number of cliches: a matchbook is used for a lead and a cigarette used for an escape. “Entry Point” is the first novel I’ve read from Jon Guenther. It took a while for me to get used to his writing style. And despite the problems that I had with the plot, the “set piece” action scenes and the characterizations are solid.

I throughly enjoyed Entry Point: THe canivore Project 1, the actions and motives of all the charcters were belivable. The main enemy is named RHatib who is is a boy genius who knows computers and wants to gain illegal acess to the CArnivore program which controls all knowledge of America's defensive and offensive weapons systems. This would leave America vulnerable to the New Islamic Front. Rhatib reasons too cripple America are a breath of fresh air as he doesn't want to destroy the U.SA. but show it shouldn't place it faith in modern technology as he is against seems against the taking of human life. Helping Bolan is the suave pilot Grimaldi and Tyra MacEwan a computer programmer who is just as brillant as Rhatib and maybe the only person who can stop him via computer. I defintely liked the romance between GRimaldi and MacEwan. ALso the musings on MacEwan but doesn't want to get involved sexually with her.
