Vietnam: Ground Zero · #30
Spike
by Kevin Randle · December 1990
War materials are being shipped in by rail from China to an enemy staging area at Son Tay. NVA regulars then transport the AK-47s and demolition supplies to the south on their backs. U.S. Army Special Forces captain Mack Gerber gets the job of wiping out this rolling ammo dump.
But Gerber smells a rat. First, he discovers that the ClA's Intel is dangerously unreliable. Second, a direct-action mission on foot doesn't make sense when logic dictates an air strike. Third, he and his spike team are dispatched with an ominous warning: Stay on your toes at Son Tay. Things are not always what they seem to be.
Stale Intel ... Kit Carson scouts of questionable loyalty... no detailed plan of attack. The spooks are playing a game of liar's poker, and Gerber's got to bluff his way through it. But as always, stalking the enemy makes Gerber feel very much alive. And as always, he needs a lot of luck to stay that way.
