And as Bolan takes out the capo D'Angelo we come to the end of a really good book BUT no it is only page 145 so we now plow our way through another 76 pages of really ordinary stuff. The ending was so disappointing and should have been edited out for filling in of the first 145 pages with some more action scenes or character development maybe. Why the female assassin character was included at all is a question and her killing herself seemed bazaar in the situation. Previous stuff from this author has been much better. my two bobs worth..........

I really really hoped that this book would be a great one and half way through it I thought that it was a killer one with a great pace and excellent writing but then...................it started to slide a bit downhill around the time that D´Angelo was killed and didn´t finish with same quality in writing as it has started with and the loose ends started to pile up fast. The reactions of the KGB guys when they found out that they were up against KGB´s enemy number one was a very strange one and like they only thought the Bolan was a mere common criminal and not a huge danger for everyone associated with KGB. The lady assassin could and should have been a much more challenge for Bolan and the very end of the book instead of being killed as early as she was as she was supposed to be good yet she was only a mere annoyance before she killed herself.................a very stupid ending for this character!!!! I wonder why she was ever introduced as she was knocked off way too early?? This book had great potential but it didn´t quite manage to live up to it inl the end..............which is sad.......... but true (2004)

Killer Crap is more like it. 1) D'Angelo is a mafia boss. Ok. Since when does the mafia kill wives and children of their employees? This was always pretty much stressed as outside the code of the mafia that was used in Pendleton books. Also terminology seemed a bit off like using the term "Families" why not "La Commissione" or "Costra Nostra" just didn't seem like a typical phrase in the standard Mafia novels. Sanson should have read the entire mafia saga. 2) Ok let me get this straight. A black operations group uses the mafia for information about what companies do. If the OD is that secret such that even the Secretary of Defense is on a need-to-know basis for what this group does then shouldn't they have access automatically to any project in the industrial-military sector? Why resort to the mafia. Also since a black op group is sanctioned by the government why was Mack so willing to kill them all? They weren't involved in the deaths nor in the sabotage. Seems to me they were doing what they were suppose to be doing granted stupidly. 3) Ok the russian KGB finds out it was Mack Bolan involved. Shouldn't that name be ingrained in the mind of every KGB agent exactly who this man is and how dangerous he is. Did the writers read about his exploits against the KGB and Strakhov's group? For them to even consider for a second that Mack was in it for money was jawdropping. 4) The lady assassin. Ok a throw away character. She could have been interesting but two small scenes and she kills herself. Ok??? Surprised the mafia would hire a female assassin. I think she was working for them. Not sure. Sanson just never really explored her background. She nearly got Mack to. 5) I cannot ever remember Mack ever using a blackjack. Never. His mode of infiltration has not been to knock out mafia then tie them up but to use a silencer or piano-wire. Tying up lookouts seemed so stupid. A 2. Avoid at all costs.

After a great start, this novel kind of went downhill. I was disappointed with it. The action scenes were ok, but this novel doesn't stack up to this author's earlier books, White Line War was a far superier novel. Bolan investigates corruption in equipment for military aircraft, involving selling secrets to the soviets, while dealing damage to U.S. equipment at the same time. A decent plot idea, but the story at times seemed to jump around too much, the whole mafia angle didn't seem to be necessary for the plot to work fine on its own. I didn't care much for the female assasin, her role could have been greater, and making a challenge for Bolan, but she turned out to be a brief annoyance that was no problem for Bolan to deal with. She wasn't very smart. I like this writer, but this book kind of lost my interest a little, but it does have a lot of action, not a boring book, a slightly better than average yarn overall.

A new US attack helicopter is being tested in the desert when it fails catastrophically. Brognola thinks something is up, so he asks Bolan to look into the electronic developer. Before long, the mob and the KGB are taking shots at Bolan. The first half of this book is great. It races along, with a great tempo and excellent battle writing. However, about midway through the book seems to come undone. The plot gets a little more vague, and the villains barely have time to be established before being blown away by Bolan. It's too bad that the tempo and writing of the first half couldn't be kept up. This one seemed like a real winner, and it's still better than a lot of novels, but the end is uneven and not as good as anticipated.
