The island of New Amsterdam is fast becoming a major drug depot, money laundry, and haven for criminals - the effort of a Colombia-Cuba alliance. Elections are approaching, and the cartel wants its man in power. The opposition badly needs support against the cartel's campaign, and the U.S., with a big stake in the action, fields a lethal candidate. Mack Bolan takes his special brand of politics to the streets, driving his message of attrition as far away as Medellin. The Executioner is certain that when election fever ends, the outcome will not be decided by the polls.

I found the first two thirds of the book to be outstanding writing from Newton, with just the brief sniper scene early on that was a repeat from his earlier books. The last third was average action with predictable outcomes, beginning with Bolan's rattling cages till they bring back the girl captive scenes. Other than these two elements, I thought this book stood on its own as another terrific Bolan adventure from Newton Encizo gets a starring role alongside Bolan in this title. Bolan is tasked with keeping a corrupt candidate from winning an election on a fictitious island in the carribbean. Good character interaction and solid storyline to go with the action. My favorite part of the book was Bolan's phone calls with the Obregon's. I got a laugh from his conversation with Pablo. It was a hoot, this book gets a bonus star from that. The book was a little long winded, with the last scene dragged out with the bad candidate being hunted down in Cuba, nothing special there, and he should have been taken out in the main final battle, in my opinion.

Further to the previous review. YES IT WAS and also in around another 5 or 6 other titles to date by Mr. Newton. Hey the sniper stuff to rattle the enemy has been done numerous times already but what REALLY REALLY annoyed me was THE RE-USE of the hostage and rattling of the cage scenerio YET AGAIN. If this is a pre-requisite of reading any more Mike Newton titles then I will pass them over and can understand why he has written 90+ titles. HOW MANY MORE TIMES WILL Mr. Newton use this in his titles ? If you haven't read any of the series or only one or two of Mr. Newton's titles believe it or not from the above this is a really good read. AND IF you haven't read any like the above this is highly recommended. If you have read quite a few titles in the series and have read at least three of Mr. Newton's titles excluding The Trial don't bother you have already read it and didn't know it :-( my two bobs worth........
