Something is rotting in the tropical heat of Skyler's Island. Once a penal colony, the tiny Caribbean island has become the stronghold of Steven Hokes, a man with big aspirations. His rubber plantation is producing a king's fortune. His future resort complex will rival the very best. And soon, his transplanted Colombian cocaine empire will compete with the world's largest cartels. But for Steven Hokes the fun and games are about to end. In a blitz fueled by a personal vendetta, Carl Lyons and his Able Team commandos intend to crash the party.

Well this one is pretty ordinary. Steven Hokes would rate close to the top as the most pathetic villain's come across in any of these joined series. The ant scene was cool but there is much better stuff in this series than this.

The title of this book should of been "What Fire". Renauld's books are usually low on action, but balanced by a well plotted, entertaining story. This book seemed to be just no action, and little else. There were times where things could have been going on, but didn't, and other times where nothing was happening that did. There were a couple of good scenes, but most of the book was just dull. And near the end, when things were starting to get good, the conclusion just kind of limped into yeahwhateversville. This is another of those Able Team novels you might as well skip.

This came across to me like an attempt to run an old-fashioned jungle thriller through the Able Team formula. Nice try, but not the best fit for this series, though the writing itself was above par, as was the characterization and dialogue. I agree with Gunslinger's kudos about the torture-by-ants scene but otherwise think he was way too hard on the book. I see that Renaud has a new book out after what looks like a long layoff. It'll be interesting to see how the new stuff stacks up.

Horrible!! Absolutely terrible! One of the worst Able Team books that I have ever had the displeasure of reading. The only high point was the torture by ants scene.
