A mind is a terrible thing to waste. Remo still has a mind - but it was totally wasted. Someone has ripped his memory out by the roots, and has him by the short and curly hairs. As far as Remo and everyone else was concerned, he was a cop killer locked in a cell on death row. All he could do was chill out until they strapped him into the hot seat. Where was his boss at CURE, Dr. Harold W. Smith? Out of his job, now taken over by a man who gave rabid ruthlessness a bad name. Where was his master Chiun? Out to lunch, believing Remo was undercover and in control. And where did this leave Remo? Dead out of luck, unless he learned again to do what the Destroyer did best.

This was a very unusual Destroyer novel. Very serious novel with only 3 humorous scenes. About half the book takes place on Death Row where Remo is suffering from amnesia believing he has been on death row for 20 years and his time is about up. The scenes with Remo and Popcorn were just so dreary and depressing. You knew Popcorn would be fried but Remo kind of felt sorry for him and he was just a little over 18. Although you find out Popcorn lied and he really raped and killed his sister. He claimed he killed his girlfriend that was in bed with his friend and he discovered them together on is birthday. He still deserved the frying though. Were there any light scenes? Just two. Chiun telling the Sinanju children about how whites landed on the moon was a riot. He said that when he approached Smith about this he discovered all the brought back was rocks. Chiun offered to go out and get rocks for them at half-price Smith thanked him but said the moon was fine. Lesson was that whites can learn from repeated stupid adventures and stop doing them. Getting ordinary rocks was the stupid repeated adventure. The taking back of Folcroft for Smith was good and having Chiun discover the treachery by a replacement and trying to regain Remo's memory was good. But still the last 30 pages could not replace the 100 odd pages of the death row storyline. Depressing to the max.
