The idea of a genetically programmeable bioweapon isn't a new one to me -- the Syphon Filter series on PlayStation, anyone? -- but it's certainly a creepy idea that there are people around who can come up with something like that. As is said in Able Team's final battle, you can defeat human adversaries with bullets and explosives, but how does one tackle an invisible microorganism? No thanks. Give me a bullet in the brain over something like that any day. No surprise, really, to find one strong leader who virtually brainwashes people into doing his will. That's happened before; take a look at Hitler. But one thing I love about idiots like that is the way they never seem to realize that sooner or later someone will stand up to them, and they will take a fall. I also loved the way David, Gary, Rafe, and the Sarge wouldn't give up on finding TJ and Cal. But hey, that's typical Phoenix Force fare -- they don't ever give up. Neither do Able Team. Hey, look at Gadgets. His guns knocked out of his hands, he uses a blade to lethal effect. As Barbara Price says at the end of the story: "Thank God for the good guys." Amen to that. -
Deep Attack was a decent entry into the series, I didn't enjoy it much for some reason. It didn't pull me in like most of the other Bolans did. The scenes with the Caimans were excellent, but the "cavern lair" reminded of the Bond film "You Only Live Twice". Some good scenes though, especially the opening in Key West. -
A recent addition to my collection. Older, but thoroughly enjoyable. Got a bit more of an insight into the way Mack's mind works. Also got a laugh when Leo Turrin was referred to as "Leo The Pussy." I sure as hell wouldn't describe him as a pussy. But then again, in my experience, if you back a "pussy" into a corner, it's usually a big mistake! (As it was here) Don't believe me? Then read the book. Leo and the big guy (Mack) are two men I'd trust to watch my back any day. -
Agree with Monsta Mack, that it's a way to get hooked into the series. I ought to know -- it was my first introduction to the big guy. Loved it, it kept me hooked. I particularly liked the way Mack sent the last bad guy down the lift shaft -- his own private express route to hell, no?
